"Time is but the stream that I go a-fishing in." ~Henry David Thoreau

My friend Peter was a young man with high hopes and a bright future the day he was T-boned by a truck going 60-70 mph. When he left his home the morning of July 29, 2010, he had no idea that his life was about to be drastically changed. With injuries all over his body, hope for Peter's full recovery looked bleak at first, but after about five months he was able to return home to the care of his family. When I first heard, I was totally shocked. I couldn't believe that the guy I had been debating with just a few weeks earlier, was in ICU with a high risk of brain damage. Life is unpredictable, and many of us take for granted the time that we have. Every day, an average of 115 people die in car accidents, and with the average death rate of 150,000 people per day, who knows, anyone could be next. Death has quite a schedule for today, so just pray that you're not on it.

Yeah, that is a scary thought, but we know that our future is in the hands of God. Our duty is to be thankful, and not waste the time that we have been given. Many times I have found myself bored, and unsatisfied with my situation, thinking about the next thing to I could look forward to. Benjamin Franklin said, "Lost time is never found again. You may delay, but time will not" What you do with the time you have is up to you, but time moves along for everyone, and there is no reason to lay around killing it. C.S. Lewis said, "The future is something which everyone reaches at the rate of 60 minutes an hour, whatever he does, whoever he is."

So many people think that they don't have enough time, but time is something that we always want more of, but we rarely know how to use. When you waste time, you waste life, and life is a gift given to us by God. Psalm 39:4-5 says, “O Lord, make me know my end and what is the measure of my days; let me know how fleeting I am! Behold, you have made my days a few handbreadths, and my lifetime is as nothing before you. Surely all mankind stands as a mere breath!"

Boredom is simply a state of mind. We can choose to be bored or dissatisfied, but remember that time waits for no one. The more of it you kill, the less life you have to live. Minutes don't seem like much, but minutes turn to hours, hours turn to days, and days to years. Time is given to us freely, and yet it is more valuable than gold. Life is unpredictable, so don't waste it while you have it.

"Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. "
~James 4:14

"We are time's subjects, and time bids be gone."
~William Shakespeare

"If today was your last day
Would you make your mark by mending a broken heart?
You know it's never too late to shoot for the stars
Regardless of who you are
So do whatever it takes
'Cause you can't rewind a moment in this life
Let nothin' stand in your way
Cause the hands of time are never on your side

If today was your last day
And tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?

Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
Would you call old friends you never see?
Reminisce old memories
Would you forgive your enemies?
Would you find that one you're dreamin' of?
Swear up and down to God above
That you'll finally fall in love
If today was your last day..."
